What defines a Nanny, and how does she differ from an Au Pair?
The distinction lies in professional expertise, employment status, and the level of responsibility entrusted.

A Nanny is a trained and experienced childcare professional. She is employed by the family under a formal work contract and receives a fixed salary. Her role may be full‑time or part‑time, and her working conditions are governed by the labour laws of the host country. Many Nannies have international experience and are accustomed to demanding roles. Their responsibilities often resemble those of a governess, with a strong educational dimension.

An Au Pair, by contrast, is a young person, often a student – who joins a host family to improve their language skills and discover a new culture. They receive pocket money rather than a salary, and their childcare hours are limited. An Au Pair is not a childcare professional and participates under a cultural‑exchange status.
Although the terms “Nanny” and “Au Pair” are often feminised, our candidates include both women and men.
What a Nanny brings to your home?
A Nanny’s responsibilities adapt to the rhythm and needs of the family, with a focus on the children’s well‑being and the smooth running of the household.
She oversees the children’s daily routine: meals, bath time, homework, outings, and bedtime. She supports their development through creative, stimulating, and age‑appropriate activities.
She may handle tasks related to the children’s environment, such as tidying their rooms, caring for their clothes, or sterilising bottles and feeding equipment.
Depending on her profile, she may also take charge of homeschooling, language instruction, or personal‑assistant‑type tasks.
She becomes a key pillar of support for the family, contributing both to the children’s development and to the household’s organisation.
What the host family provides
A Nanny devotes her time and energy to your children’s well‑being. She should therefore be welcomed with warmth, respect, and consideration.
She must have a comfortable private bedroom and access to all shared living spaces. A private bathroom is recommended for everyone’s comfort, though a shared one is acceptable.
She must receive an employment contract, salary, holidays, insurance, and all other rights required by the laws of the host country.
Families who travel frequently remain responsible for complying with local employment regulations. When needed, we can connect them with legal professionals who can assist with payroll and administrative requirements.

Expected costs when hiring a Nanny or Governess
• Salary: determined by responsibilities, working hours, number of children, and local regulations. Salaries typically range from €1,500 to €6,000 per month, in addition to full‑board accommodation.
• Employer/employee contributions: vary by country.
• Full‑board accommodation and any vehicle‑related expenses for the Nanny.
• Insurance: travel, car, and other relevant coverage.
• Additional costs linked to assigned duties (transport for the Nanny or children, gym memberships, educational materials, etc.).
• Agency fees: detailed in the information pack; personalised quotes available on request.
